A Notion to Knit

Cables, all done but before that ...

Pretty, thick and thin cables that I was going to show you this morning. I know, they are a bit hard to make out unstretched. This is the Yarn Harlot's pattern, An Unoriginal Hat.

Tomorrow, I'll show you the finished hat. Exciting, right? It's actually got to do with Flickr and group daily limits and such, as to why I'm holding out on the finished photo.

K is for knitting, of course!

K is for knitting. Though I haven't done much over the last few months, I seem to be getting my knitting mojo back. Or maybe a really bad want of starting new projects? Anyway, knitting it is! I carry knitting with me for when I have to wait. In the picture, I'm knitting in my car as I wait.

Really, the only other possibilities I saw for K were kanji (for 4 of my tattoos) and kitties (but I think I covered that in C).

Yeah, still catching up. A real blog post coming in the very next little bit.

J is for jewelry.

Jewelry, this is my favorite piece right now. I adore the bright, candy like beads and oxidized silver. So pretty together. I made this awhile back but put it away because it needed an adjustment. I still haven't made the adjustment and for now it doesn't matter since it's going to be cooler weather - I am going to make it so that it can be a bracelet or anklet for me.

Random Wednesday

1. Pretty yarn.

I need a hat for the chilly weather and this beautiful yarn is my answer to that. So far, I've only swatched but I need to wash it to see how it responds. It reminds me a lot of Manos yarn and when I washed the Calorimetry I'd made myself, it faded dramatically .. and I would have known about that if I'd swatched completely, eep. Another look at the yarn to see the differences in the two skeins.

Both skeins are the same lot but obviously the top one is much lighter so I'm going to work with both at the same time. The yarn is Araucania Magallanes and a little thick and thin. Anyway, I want to make something like a rasta hat but there are no patterns like what I want so I'll be winging it. I'd like another Calorimetry out of this also but if I need to buy another skein, that's okay too.

2. Also on the needles is a Green Gable for myself, in Brown Sheep Cotton Fleece (Candy Apple color). And as usual, many socks. All of that has been slow going. I haven't had the knitting bug so much until the last few days but even then I want to knit something on larger needles.

3. We've been having good luck with our thrift store shopping lately. No pictures yet so I guess I'll hold off on details. That will give me a project for tomorrow! Though I will say I'm particularly excited about a bike rack that DB thinks will fit on the back of my wagon (which is a little difficult to fit apparently) and was only $5. I know we're getting into the rainy season, but I still have high hopes for the bike rack.

4. After some thrift shopping yesterday, we discovered a really good Chinese restaurant. I almost always crave oriental food, whether it's Chinese, Japanese, Vietnamese or Thai but still hadn't found a truly good Chinese restaurant until now. The portions and prices were great. Yum, there are still leftovers. And the icing on the cake is that a waitress (I feel bad, I cannot remember her name - it's been like 4 years) that was our favorite at a breakfast place we used to go to regularly works at the new restaurant we found! She remembered us too and was still as friendly as ever. Very cool.

5. I am on a sudden game lust kick but can't believe how hard it is to find games for Macs and then that fit the specs of my own MacBook. Currently, I'm trying out a billiards game (actually two) to see which I prefer.

6. I bought tons of veggies at the market that I need to use! They are still fine but I think tomorrow I will eat a tomato sandwich for lunch and make us Fried Green Tomatoes to go with dinner. And I have 4 bell peppers that I'm thinking about marinating for veggie sandwiches.

7. I think this is the end of my random thoughts for now. It would be much better with more photos! But, I'm just getting the hang of breaking out my camera regularly again. So, bear with me.

I found my way back.

So yeah, I seemed to have gotten lost on that last plan to be back 'tomorrow.' Things may be a little out of context as I share a few photos that are older.

These were a few of the pretty textiles I saw at the state fair last month. I'm always a little surprised when I see popular patterns from magazines like Interweave Knits entered into the fair. That's why I took a shot of the first cardigan, who's name escapes me at the moment. Pretty textiles.

And my weakness, lovely little flowers.

So ... I got Matilda M back from repair, my MacBook. I was just in time for my warranty coverage, which was a great thing because the repairs were apparently almost equal to what I paid for her brand new (last year). They entirely replaced the bottom casing and part of the top (I think only part of the top). And the heat sink, if that's the right term. Anyway, lots of work and when I got her back everything was still in tact without my needing to restore from backup. That lasted for a few days only, thanks to iTunes 8.0. I try to steer clear of updates but I like to buy things on iTunes. So, I had to do that update to iTunes 8.0 so that I could purchase a TV show I wanted (the "Greenzo" episode of "30 Rock" by the way) and then there were many problems with no resolution. No resolution, but for me to install my restore disks and then load everything off my backup hard drive. I'm just now, over the last few days, getting things back in order so I know what's what. Maybe more computer information than you wanted, but that's the biggest part of what I've been up to.

The other stuff is sad, personal stuff for now. Family and kitty stuff that is alright for now.

No new knitting to show but more pretty stuff to look at next time.
