A Notion to Knit

for now

I have pictures taken and uploaded (yay!) but just need to sort through them again. As I was snapping pictures, I was reminded of Stephanie mentioning something about not being able to have too many pictures of yarn. The yarn is so pretty, I just wanted to keep taking more pictures! And when I uploaded them, it was hard to tell what was bad - which was a good thing because one of the colors looked as though it wasn't going to take at all. Anyway, I will get those uploaded hopefully tomorrow - I'm going for something called a HIDA scan which doesn't sound fun so we'll see. But, for now I'm catwoman ...Your results:

Black Sheep Gathering part 1

The Black Sheep Gathering was this past weekend in Eugene.  LOVE Eugene, by the way.  I shopped, but those pictures will be a different post because I'm lazy I haven't taken them yet.  Although, actually I have been exceptionally busy this past week.

Cute sheep were seen, of course. But, only two good pictures of them. It was much hotter than I anticipated that day and you could tell even in the sheep's behavior. Several pictures that I tried to take ended up being blurs of sheep moving, because so few of them were still.

There was also Black Sheep Bingo! I actually only met about 6 or 7 people that were on my bingo sqares but it was fun. I met Jodie (but in all fairness, I'd met her at a previous BSG :-) ) and Bonnie. I met a few others but am really not good at names coming at me quickly and I don't have my card in front of me, oops. Anyway, it was fun talking and watching them spin on their spinning wheels - pretty spinning wheels. Afterwards we had really good vegetarian pizza at the Pizza Research Institute, very yummy.

So, this is it for now. I will get pictures taken of my goodies and post them plus some knitting. But, I'm tired and still winding down from last week and the weekend. Winding down for tomorrow because I'm taking a class for summer. Yeah, another try. It's important.

Tim Russert

I'm so saddened by his sudden death.  I get very attached, just by way of watching some people on television.  Tim Russert was someone I had great respect for and looked forward to seeing.  Along with other sad blog news, it just brings up so much how you just never know.

Some of the tags people use are stranger than I'd realized - as in, where is my word even mentioned (???) when looking at the results. Fun stuff.

soon to be weekend

The weekend is coming fast! I have never been to my local knitting group - since it regrouped - but I'm thinking about going this weekend. I plan on checking Ravelry to see if the group is having a knit in public event.

As I'm showing what I've been up to knitting-wise bit by bit, here is another pair of socks on the needles. I may have shown them before, but they have been on the sidelines until this past week. I picked them back up and am now past a short row heel. By the way, I'm still so bad at short row heels. But, I keep trying them. I figure that's the only way they'll get better, from practice.

These are for my Mom and will be toe socks. For now, I'm still planning on just trying to figure it out myself as far as the numbers go. But, I may lazy out and just buy a book that has a pair in it. I'd rather try to figure it out on my own first though! The yarn is unbelievably soft so it's really nice to knit but I hope it holds up well. It seems like I've heard good things about it - Mountain Colors Bearfoot yarn.

We had spaghetti for dinner tonight, it was so good. We were both craving it since it had been awhile. I didn't think about a picture until part way through dinner so no pictures!

a little list

1. today's been stressful. No matter how old you get, women, girls, are just not nice. I've had few close friends in my life that are female and the ones that are, usually are for a long time. Unfortunately, I don't know if I mentioned it or not, but two of my best girlfriends moved out of state over the last six months. While, we are of course staying in touch, it isn't the same as having them here.

2. sometimes it is as though I was dropped on my head the way things fly out of it, lately that is. I know how to read a pattern, it was something I learned as I was learning to cast on and knit (which by the way, I found casting on and forming a slip knot much harder than the actual knitting considering I taught myself rather than turning to anyone for help). But, suddenly I don't. So, I was very pleased to tell you that I finally figured out how to knit Pomatomus after two failed attempts - due to not reading the pattern, just diving into it. It turned out in both failed attempts, I failed because I didn't read the part about starting on the 2nd row. Simple, indeed. Now, I cannot remember what the '*' means in the order of things. So, I made it to the point of completing the first repeat but I think I messed up when beginning the second repeat. I need to look closely at some completed socks, probably on Ravelry, but I am fairly certain I'll have to rip back and start this repeat over. Regardless, the yarn is lovely. I love it's wild, unmatching pooling. The Christmas like red and green is my favorite part of it! The yarn is Socks That Rock Silkie in Foofaraw, but I don't see that colorway on the website now. Silkie is so soft, so soft.

3. it's very cold today, considering that it's out of context. Why is that? In the 'winter' if it's in the 40's, it's not too bad. If it's in the 40's now, it's freaking freezing cold. So hard to imagine that people are having summer even when my Mom tells me about 90+ heat.

4. I love these. They are my favorite thrift find as of late. I wear them almost all the time, the only thing that stops me is the rain.

5. I have more knitting, but for now I'm done. It's been a l-o-n-g day. Night'
