A Notion to Knit

beaded craftiness

This is a birthday gift that I made my dear friend, M last month.

I love these colors together, they remind me of the Caribbean.  It was very hard to capture the aqua beads but this was extremely close - particularly on the left side.  The brown beads are more like tortoise than wood.  Here is a close-up of the heart clasp - sorry about the blurriness, I haven't quite mastered the macro on this new camera.

And here are a few simpler bracelets that I made for myself.  With the brightly colored ones, I was wanting a kind of hippy feel.  I think they are maybe too sparkly, but the only others ones I found were too dull.  What to do?

socks

This is some of the socks in progress, I realized there are at least two missing: a pair of heavy purple Cleckheaton socks and some Fortissima anklets.  From left to right these are:  the Wildfoote Ragtime anklets from last week - I've started the short row heel over again using the wrap and turn method and it's going much more smoothly, Knitpicks Memories in Red Hat socks for DB mother & the second Trekking XXL Retro Rib (still from last year) - I will finish this and probably not do this pattern again, I think.

I need to finish these because I'm really wanting to work on some patterned socks.  Also, I'm dying to use some of the Socks That Rock that I bought in June at the Black Sheep Gathering.

And just because . . .

a very, very bad version of the above picture.  This creeped me out, so I had to share.  It reminds me of the lobby and elevator scene in "The Shining."  Shudder.

so much time, so few things to do . . .

. . . oops, reverse that.

1.  i am going to be away from the blog for a little bit, while i take care of some personal things.  but, i have some posts that i've done ahead of time so that there will be something here.  actually, there may be a few more than if i was here (sad, huh).  while i'm away, i'm turning comments off, but feel free to email me at anotiontoknit at hotmail dot com.  just know that though i will reply, it won't be immediately.

2.  tonight, these t-shirts from Old Navy became

they almost look like a rose color on my monitor, but they are actually like a cocoa.  this was the first time i've attempted to dye something (i used ritz dye) and while they turned out a few shades lighter than intended, i'm still pleased.  sorry about cutting the after pictures a little short, but i didn't want to stand on the bed again.  i'm so short, it's just sad.

3.  last thursday, i went to this

i saw Stephanie in Eugene and got my copy of Knitting Rules autographed.  she was charming and funny (and adorable), just like i remembered.

unfortunately, this time, i missed some of her talk, because i was caught in traffic running one last errand before getting on the road.  that's why i'm so far back - this was the best picture i took as she talked.

4.  last monday, Labor Day, we went to the state fair.  i won a cute critter, stuffed of course, but he'll appear later.  also, i had this put into my hair ...

it's wrapped and kind of macramed into a little section of my hair.  it's growing on me as time goes on - no pun intended.  if you look closely, you can see the kitty (charm) climbing up my hair/braid.

knitting update later.  i hope that you don't run off, posts are scheduled.

short row snafoo

i started a new pair of anklets [yep, even with the pile of ufo's surrounding me] and decided to try a short row heel.  i'd been wanting to try this for awhile but also, i thought it seemed like it would use less yarn than a traditional heel flap.

as you can see, i haven't made it very far - just to the point where you start increasing again.  but, there's a problem . . .

can you see the holes?  they're only on one side.  i guess i must be doing part of the backyarn [what the?] backward yarn over wrong.  i'm going to rip this out and try again. 

there is more knitting to photograph, but i was in a hurry when i took these today.  plus, i'm going for one more try on the birthday jewelry i made my friend m, before posting those pictures.  the beads are very reluctant, even in sunlight, to come through correctly.

Here is Candie laying around yesterday afternoon.  For today, this is the only picture.  The knitting and jewelry I'm trying to photograph still hasn't come out right, so I definitely need to get it in the sunlight - unless I decided to keep trying inside tonight.

Tomorrow is the last day of the state fair and we're going to that.  But now that I've figured out a way to upload pics, there will be more.

pictures of knitting are hard to get

yes, they are, but you all know that already right

i was just going to begin a post with some pictures but discovered that i don't know how to upload them from the program -kodak share-.  it doesn't work like it did on the sony because it keeps trying to upload the entire program as opposed to one picture.  i will figure this out or upload to my new flickr account so i can post.  btw, the keyboard is messed up again so please use your imagination on grammar - when it messes up like this i can't use the shift key because it inserts whatever last website was typed in the url bar.  ugh.

back in a little bit. seriously.
